Ray is race director for the now world famous Connemara marathon, half and ultra – the most scenic marathon in the world!
”I started running on April 1st 2000 – I thought it was a good day to make a fool of myself so I made my 100th attempt at giving up 30 cigs a day. I didn’t feel such a fool when I ran/walked my first marathon the following November in New York, even though the clock showed a finish time of 5:15. I was bitten by the marathon bug and have run 28 so far. My best was probably The Connemara Tester Marathon three weeks ago (Feb 10th) which I finished very easily… and then got injured. Best finish time was in Dublin 2005 – 3:40. Long term goal is to get into the 100 Marathon Club which might happen in 2012.
Shorter term goals: Finish 12 marathons in 2007 and to complete the MDS in 2009.”
